|Welcome to the Virgin Islands Workforce Development System.
On July 22, 2014, President Obama signed into law the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (WIOA). This Act supersedes the long standing Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA).
WIOA offers workers and job seekers a new, diverse and more flexible framework in which to prepare for the jobs and career opportunities of this century. It offers a platform for employers to collaborate with workforce professionals and educators on designing work based solutions that link diverse talent to businesses. It supports a strong convening of leaders in workforce and economic development, education and social services organizations to align education and training investments to regional civic and economic growth strategies.
The new workforce system is characterized by three critical hallmarks of excellence:
Keeping in mind that life moves at a faster pace, that skills are in constant need of upgrading and that knowledge empowers, the members of the Virgin Islands Workforce Board are committed to developing sector strategies and creating career pathway options in high growth, in-demand occupations relevant in the US Virgin Islands and beyond.
The Virgin Islands Workforce Board invites you to come with us on this journey and share with us innovative ideas and opportunities that foster positive growth in our local workforce.
